Open Question: i like this girl from my class, i dont know if she likes me too,?

i want to give her a gift on valentines day, i dont know if she has a guy??? should i text her before i buy her the gift???? and if i do get her the gift should i meet her in person at her office or should i wait till she come to class and give her the gift? (at class i feel shy cause of the crowed and her friends,,, like what if she doesnt accept it??) and would she accept it cause i dont know if she does like me to the same way i do....... or should i wait for some more time,,,,, and later do ask her out, but i fear if someone else might ask her out???? i am damn confused,,,, i wonder why its hard to talk to a girl you really love :(...
